With only a few hours left, Australians across the country are preparing to ring in the new year.
Celebrations and events have been scheduled in major cities to bring Australians together, as they count down the final moments of 2025.

Looking for things to do today? We’ve got you covered with a lineup of exciting events happening now.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns is urging Sydney locals to join in the festivities and embrace the vibrant celebrations taking place across the city.

The iconic New Year’s Eve fireworks will return at midnight on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
At 11pm, a minute of silence will be held to commemorate the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack.
The Harbour Bridge will also be lit up in white, with a menorah projected onto the bridge’s pylons.

While details remain under wraps to ensure security, Premier Minns reassures the public not to be alarmed by the increased police presence, which may include officers carrying long-arm weapons.

“We need to show defiance in the face of this evil,” he said on Tuesday.
“The best way of doing that is to spend some time with your friends and your family on New Year’s Eve, on Sydney Harbour.”
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said she hopes tonight’s event “brings people from all cultures, nationalities, faith, hope and joy, and a sense of unity as we stand together to see in this year new year”.
Events with increased security will also go ahead at Coogee, Parramatta and on the city’s northern beaches. However, a planned gathering at Bondi has been cancelled.
There will be thousands of armed police in attendance to ensure the crowds are safe all over the city.

Residents of Sydney are encouraged to unite and enjoy the New Year’s Eve festivities. As Minns emphasizes, “We want everyone to have fun responsibly. That means planning ahead, arriving early, and heeding the advice from transport and emergency services.”

Melbourne

Melbournians planning to join the city’s New Year’s Eve celebration can head to Flagstaff Gardens, Treasury Gardens, Kings Domain and Docklands, with live entertainment and fireworks from 9:30pm.
Around 500,000 people are expected to flock to the city for the fireworks.
Victoria Police will conduct extra patrols by sending both uniformed and plain-clothed officers, and there will be weapon searches at transport hubs.
“We want everyone to ring in the new year in style,” Melbourne Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece said.

“We also want people to play it safe, so we’re asking everyone to plan ahead, get in early and follow advice from transport and emergency services.”

Adelaide

Celebrations in Adelaide will kick off from 5:30pm with free family-friendly events in Elder Park, which has a capacity of 25,000 people.
People can enter the venue from King William Road, on King William Bridge, and in front of the Convention Centre. Fireworks will be on at 9pm and midnight.

Brisbane

There will be simultaneous fireworks displays along the Brisbane River at 7:45pm and midnight.

A light show at Surfers Paradise will be held at 8pm.

Hobart

There will be fireworks over Hobart’s River Derwent at 9:30pm and midnight.
Families are advised to head to Regatta Grounds for the best viewing spot.

In Launceston, there will be the traditional BeerFest where attendees can enjoy food, drinks and live music.

Darwin
