A NSW man has been jailed for 31 years for killing his daughter’s fiance months before the couple were due to be married.
Army veteran Luke Simon shot his future son-in-law Damien Conlon in the head at his home in Oberon in February 2023.
CCTV footage released by the NSW Supreme Court showed the final minutes of Conlon’s life.
His intentions were seemingly clear.
“That’s the one that’s going to put him to sleep,” he could be heard saying.
“See you later f—— Damien,” he said.
“You’re f—— gone. You’re gone.”
Today, Simon was sentenced to 31 years jail for the murder of his soon-to-be son-in-law.
Court documents revealed the relationship between the pair two soured when they and Simon’s daughter Linda began living at the same property.
Tensions reportedly heightened when Simon received a notice requesting him to leave the granny flat where he was staying, allowing the couple to commence renovations on the main house.
The murder took place months before Linda and Damien were due to get married.
In a victim impact statement, Linda said that Simon could not face Conolon “like a man and have a conversation like a human being”.
She mentioned that Simon’s behavior had “deprived their four children of a father’s affection,” noting that her son continued to roam the house searching for his dad.
Simon will be eligible for parole in 22 years.
