A wild storm is tracking towards South Australia, with a warning issued for monster tides and damaging winds.

A coastal hazard warning has been issued for several areas, such as the Adelaide metropolitan area, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Port Wakefield, and Victor Harbor.

The situation is anticipated to worsen overnight, with tides expected to rise considerably above the normal high tide mark tomorrow afternoon.

At Outer Harbour, sea levels could rise to 3.8 metres, which is nearly as high as the 3.9 metres recorded during the severe weather event that occurred four weeks ago.

The State Emergency Service (SES) expects that in the next 36 hours, conditions might cause damage similar to what was seen during that previous storm, which resulted in significant jetty damage and closures.

Strong winds have already impacted the Eyre Peninsula.

Closer to Adelaide, wind gusts of up to 90km/h are forecast for the southern Mount Lofty Ranges and parts of the metropolitan coast.

Rain is also anticipated, with totals of 30 to 50 millimetres predicted for the Mount Lofty Ranges and southern coastal areas, with a possibility of thunderstorms.

The severe weather conditions are expected to continue until Wednesday morning.

The public is advised to be prepared.
