The man accused of killing Charlie Kirk allegedly attempted to elicit the assistance of a friend following the assassination.
Chat logs on the social network Discord allegedly showed 22-year-old Tyler Robinson requesting a friend to retrieve the weapon used in the shooting from a wooded area near the campus.
“As he fled, he seemingly realized he couldn’t continue carrying the weapon and hoped his friend would assist,” former FBI agent Scott Curtis mentioned on Weekend Today.
The friend made the decision not to retrieve the weapon, and it was eventually obtained by authorities.
“We’ve seen similar situations, such as the Boston Marathon incident several years back, where the friends of those involved got entangled and lied to the FBI, resulting in prosecution,” he further explained.
The suspect’s family took action by encouraging him to surrender after his father identified him in video footage, leading to a confession and subsequent arrest.
Family members observed a shift in the suspect’s behavior over recent years, notably his animosity towards Kirk, whom he believed was inciting hatred.
Donald Trump has expressed his desire for the death penalty, with the Utah Governor also indicating a willingness to seek capital punishment if the suspect is found guilty.
A candlelight vigil organised by the Australian arm of Kirk’s Turning Point organisation was held for the conservative political commentator at Sydney’s Hyde Park last night.
Charlie’s widow announced in her first statement since his death that his college tour and podcast will continue.
