A teenage boy discovered his parents gravely injured at a well-known dangerous intersection in Adelaide after they were struck by a van as they were out walking their dog.

The 48-year-old woman and her 51-year-old husband are in hospital following the incident on Montacute Road in Newton just before 9am.

“A couple was crossing the street with their dog when the van collided with them. The woman fell to the ground, and the van ran over her,” eyewitness Sandra Liberatore explained.

The couple’s teenage son arrived at the scene to find his parents injured.

“He was in tears … he was just inconsolable,” Liberatore said.

The 48-year-old woman suffered severe head injuries and was quickly taken to the hospital. Her husband is also being treated for significant injuries. Thankfully, their dog was not injured.

The driver of the van, a 91-year-old Rostrevor man, was visibly upset following the crash.

He has been reported for two counts of dangerous driving and has had his driver’s licence suspended indefinitely.

The incident has reignited concerns among local residents about the safety of the intersection.
