An unfortunate incident at a demolition derby in New South Wales resulted in multiple injuries this evening.

A 54-year-old man is in critical condition following a collision where a vehicle broke through a barrier and struck spectators during the Walcha Motorcycle Rally, located about 420 kilometers north of Sydney, at approximately 6:20 p.m.

According to NSW Ambulance, 11 individuals sustained injuries, while NSW Police have confirmed that nine were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Before paramedics arrived, bystanders provided crucial aid. Ultimately, medical professionals transported seven men and two women, ranging in age from 20 to 75, to Walcha District Hospital. Among them is the severely injured 54-year-old man.

Police noted that the most critically injured, including the 54-year-old and three others, are anticipated to be moved to major hospitals overnight for further care.

The accident occurred when a speedway car, participating in a race, veered off course, crashing through a fence and into a mobile grandstand.

Police said the speedway car had been competing in a race when it crashed through a fence and hit a mobile grandstand.

They said officers had been told the 27-year-old driver was involved in an on-track collision immediately before his vehicle crashed through the fence.

NSW MP Brendan Moylan said the vehicle had been taking part in a demolition derby as part of the Walcha Motorcycle Rally.

“Thank you so much to the ambos, the police, the SES and everyone involved for their swift and incredibly professional work at the scene,” Moylan said in a post on Facebook.

“Like all of us, my thoughts are with everyone affected.”
