In a tragic turn of events, three men lost their lives, and a pregnant woman required urgent medical attention in two separate incidents across New South Wales waterways within a 24-hour period.
A group of individuals from Sydney were enjoying a long weekend getaway on the Mid North Coast of NSW when disaster struck around 6:45 PM yesterday.
They had chosen a scenic rental as their temporary abode in the remote town of Gleniffer, located approximately six hours from Sydney, near Bellingen.
Local reports indicate that the Never Never River, where the group was swimming near John Locke Place, is typically tranquil. However, three men in their 30s encountered difficulties in the water.
Tragically, two of the men were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Paramedics later returned to assist a pregnant woman who was suffering from shock.
Another tragic incident occurred this morning, roughly 50 kilometers to the south in South West Rocks.
Emergency services called to Trial Bay beach about 11.10am found a man believed to be in his 80s, who was unresponsive after bystanders pulled him from the water.
Paramedics couldn’t revive him and he died at the scene.
The coroner will investigate both deaths.
