Tragedy struck in regional Victoria today as a minivan carrying nine individuals collided, resulting in the loss of four lives.

The incident occurred on Chapel Road in Muckatah, approximately 250 kilometers from Melbourne, when the vehicle veered off course and smashed into a tree around 5 PM, as reported by Victoria Police.

The crash claimed the lives of four passengers, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

In addition, three children, who were among the passengers, sustained severe injuries and were flown to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

The driver and an additional passenger were also seriously hurt and transported to the hospital via road ambulance.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are currently making their way to the crash site to conduct a thorough investigation.

Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the crash were yet to be determined.

Ambulance Victoria said three air ambulances as well as Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance and Advanced Life Support paramedics were sent to the scene.

A fixed wing air ambulance plane was also dispatched.
