Authorities in Sydney have charged three individuals in connection with a suspected insurance fraud scheme that allegedly swindled over $1 million through hundreds of claims.
Police conducted raids yesterday at properties located in Denham Court and Hinchinbrook, both in the southwestern part of the city, leading to the arrests of three men, aged 37, 38, and 40.
The trio faces multiple charges, including obtaining financial advantage by deception, participating in a criminal organization, and drug supply.
The investigation began in March 2024 with the establishment of Strike Force Loughton, which aimed to uncover fraudulent activities linked to a worker’s compensation and insurance claims company employee.
Detectives discovered that from November 2022 to September 2023, a 38-year-old man allegedly orchestrated the issuance of 787 fraudulent invoices, amounting to $1,000,957.55, which were unlawfully paid to two accomplices.
In his capacity as a case manager, the man is accused of approving bogus invoices for services such as lawn mowing, cleaning, and other domestic tasks, which were subsequently processed and paid.
Police will allege in court that the funds were electronically transferred between the bank accounts of all three men.
The three men were refused bail and are due to appear in court today.
