Two teenagers have been killed in a horror car crash in Adelaide.

The 17-year-olds died after their Holden sedan hit a tree in the city’s east.

The accident happened on Montacute Road at Athelstone at 2pm.

The pair were from Rostrevor and Athelstone.

“(The) car just went off the road and was completely wrapped around a tree,” a witness said.

“It looked really bad down there.”

Major crash police are trying to work out what happened but say it appears the driver lost control on a bend.

The road has reopened tonight.
