An Adelaide parking inspector has been sacked after confessing to handing out fake fines in a university car park to meet quotas.

Bruno Elias, a local business owner, found himself entangled in a perplexing situation when he unexpectedly received 14 fines for illegal parking at the Wilson car park located at Adelaide University.

“I went through each notice and realized they couldn’t possibly be mine,” Elias explained, “I had no idea where the 140A parking location at Adelaide University even was.”

The situation took a more serious turn as the fines progressed to the government’s enforcement unit. Elias recounted, “They were threatening to repossess my vehicles, revoke my registrations, and even cancel my driver’s license.”

Determined to get to the bottom of the issue, Elias conducted his own investigation. His efforts revealed an unsettling truth: a Wilson car park employee, someone he was acquainted with, was fabricating the fines.

Shockingly, Elias discovered he wasn’t the only victim. The inspector had also targeted others within his circle, further highlighting the extent of the deceit.

The inspector had also targeted other people he knew.

“There’s five people that I know of in my friendship group that have got these fines,” he said.

The employee confessed to issuing the fines to meet what he called a daily fines quota.

Elias said five of his friends also received fines.

“He basically said ‘they were easy rego numbers because I used to see them all the time’,” Elias said.

The employee allegedly entered innocent motorist’s number plates into the system, along with black photos as evidence.

“I think it’s a big problem and it needs to be investigated at the highest level because its not good enough,” Elias said.

According to Wilson an internal investigation is now under way and the employee involved has been sacked.

It said customers who were incorrectly issued sanctions had their fines cancelled.

The government fines unit told 9News it put all penalties on hold from the university car parks until they can be assured they were issued correctly.

Adelaide University says it acted swiftly, dismissing Wilson as a contractor.
