Police have swarmed a street in Sydney‘s west after a woman was threatened by a man armed with a gun.

Early this morning, a tense situation unfolded on Uhrig Road in Lidcombe, as police responded to reports of an armed individual in a multi-level parking facility. The incident, which occurred at 7:20 am, involved a man allegedly wielding a handgun approaching a woman he did not know.

The man subsequently fled the scene, making his escape in a white Subaru SUV. This prompted a swift and robust police response due to the potential threat posed by the firearm.

NSW Police Superintendent Robert Toynton emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “We take this very, very seriously to protect the community.” The presence of a reported weapon necessitated a comprehensive search by specialist officers, who confirmed that no shots were fired during the incident.

The suspect is described as having a medium build, wearing a grey hoodie, and concealing his identity with a balaclava. Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the individual involved and ensure the safety of the community.

Specialist police carried out an extensive search of the area and confirmed no shots were fired.

Toynton said the man has a medium build, wearing a grey hoodie and had a balaclava on.

“Police are obviously very concerned about this incident and we’ve been able to confirm with the CCTV that the vehicle that that man was in was a Subaru SUV with standard roof racks,” he said.

“That vehicle has been sighted on CCTV leaving the premises a few minutes before the police arrived at the scene.”

Toynton said the SUV was fitted with cloned number plates.

The woman was shaken but not physically injured.

Police are appealing to the public for dashcam vision.

Toynton said the man was not known to the woman.

“We believe there were two people in the Subaru,” he said.

“There was a male in the passenger seat who had the firearm but also there was another driver, potentially a female.

“There was some type of disagreement in the car park and that has then resulted in this incident with the male in the balaclava.

“In any case, it’s completely unacceptable, police will investigate this matter and we’ll do our best to identify these people, but again we need the community’s help.”
