A substantial $792.9 million injection into women’s healthcare, focusing on conditions such as endometriosis, contraceptive access, and pelvic pain, stands out as the focal point of women’s targeted funding in this year’s federal budget.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers said the federal government was proud to invest in women’s health.

“Because for our government, women’s health is not a boutique issue or a question of special interest – it is a national priority,” he said.

But there was more in the budget for women than just health. Here are all the other ways the government is supporting women.

Workforce and career support

In its efforts to bolster the nation’s health workforce, the government is allocating $606.3 million to increase the number of doctors and nurses. Additionally, $28 million is designated for the establishment of the Nursing and Midwifery Academy in Victoria.

A further $10.5 million is set to enhance the Primary Care Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship program, while $1.3 million is allocated to prolong the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Education and Training Program for an additional year.

First Nations women in business will be able to access a $3.4 million mentoring and coaching program.

And, the Australian Sports Commission will receive $3.2 million to help women and girls’ participation in sports leadership through coaching, officiating and sports administration.
