Wilmington, DE – Officials have verified that the human remains found earlier this month in the Red Mill Farms vicinity near Capitol Trail and Red Mill Road belong to Cintoria Griffin, a Wilmington resident missing since June 2023.
Griffin, age 58, was last seen at around 5:30 p.m. on June 11, 2023, after getting on a bus located in the 1000 block of North Market Street in Wilmington. Investigative efforts later revealed that she left the bus close to Kirkwood Highway and Delaplane Avenue, which is right outside Newark. At the time, she was wearing a colorful dress, gold sandals, and was carrying a green bag.
In early March 2025, First State Update made known an ongoing investigation near Capitol Trail and Red Mill Road along Cordele Road, raising public curiosity. Later, New Castle County Police confirmed detectives were looking into the potential discovery of human remains in that region. A search was carried out along Capitol Trail between Fairway Road and Polly Drummond Hill Road, with law enforcement warning that occasional lane closures might lead to some traffic delays.
On Monday, March 31, 2025, authorities confirmed that the remains located behind a home on Cordele Road were those of Cintoria Griffin. The location where her remains were discovered is approximately two blocks from the intersection of Kirkwood Highway and Delaplane Avenue, the last place she was known to have been seen. The identification was first reported by The News Journal. Wilmington Police subsequently removed Griffin’s Gold Alert from their website.
Officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances of Griffin’s death. The investigation remains ongoing.
