Wilmington Police are investigating a deadly accident involving a pedestrian that took place early Monday morning. The crash happened around 5:07 a.m. near the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street.
Officers and emergency teams responded promptly after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been hit. Upon arrival, they found a female teenager, estimated to be between 15 and 17 years old, who had died from her injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police reported that the vehicle involved left the scene but was later found in Bear, and the driver has been identified. The WPD Special Operations Division/Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate, and more details will be shared as they become available.
