SAN DIEGO —
Authorities are investigating after a body washed up in Ocean Beach on Friday morning.
About 10:30 a.m., someone notified San Diego lifeguards about the body, which had washed ashore on Dog Beach in front of Tower 5, a San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesperson said.
Police said it is being treated as a death investigation, and the Medical Examiner’s Office was notified.
No further information was immediately available including the person’s gender or approximate age.
It is unclear if the discovery has any connection to an April 10 incident when a suspected smuggling boat overturned near the Ocean Beach pier. Three men were rescued and one was found dead.
The next day, beachgoers spotted a second body along the surf line off Dog Beach, north of the Ocean Beach pier. Authorities said they suspected his death may have been related to the smuggling attempt.
