Billy Ray Cyrus appeared online to heap unexpected praise upon ex-wife Tish Cyrus on Mother’s Day.

To acknowledge the holiday, the 63-year-old country singer — who shares five children with 57-year-old Tish, including superstar Miley Cyrus — posted a heartfelt message on Instagram focused on family.

‘Happy Mother’s Day to all the #StrongMothers out there. Here’s a couple that made our family who and what we are,’ he began.

Praising his ex, he stated, ‘Tish Cyrus was and is truly the epitome of a strong mother,’ and added, ‘Believe me, I’m the first to acknowledge… being married to me was no easy feat.’

The ex-couple was married from 1993 to 2022. Tish has been married to Australian actor Dominic Purcell since 2023, while Billy revealed his relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley on Easter.

In recognition of the holiday, the 63-year-old country crooner posted a solemn statement on Instagram that centered around family

The Achy Breaky Heart singer continued in his tribute to Tish on Sunday, ‘I’m very good at making mistakes. A very imperfect man. But thank goodness… somewhere along the line my Mama also taught me “life is a series of adjustments.”‘

He added, ‘Ha ha! Yep. Being honest here. Since I was a kid… I had to learn that lesson the hard way. Funny how history repeats itself. Full circle.’

The father-of-six, who is also dad to 33-year-old son Christopher with Kristin Luckey, also named his daughter Miley, 32, in the lengthy message.

He wrote, ‘I’m so proud of Miley and her guts and her courage… her wisdom and strength to bring it when our family needed it most.’

It was previously rumored that their relationship was strained, but the father-daughter appeared in a social media post signaling a reconciliation earlier this month.

Billy said in his latest Instagram upload, ‘We are so close to a full healing. We have all been through a lot.’

‘On this Mother’s Day I would like to testify to a couple facts. I still very much believe in the power power of prayer. and respectfully ask if you do also… and have an extra prayer for the CYRUS Family… I humbly would accept.’

The Something Beautiful singer wrote to her 212 million followers, ‘I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us. She’s my best friend.’

She added, ‘Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental, and uninteresting.’

The former Hannah Montana star took the opportunity to also address her relationship with her dad.

‘My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing,’ she said.

Wrapping up the note, she said she’s ‘grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.’

In addition to Miley, Billy shares daughter Noah, 25, sons Braison, 31, Trace, 36, and daughter Brandi, 37, with Tish.

In addition to Sunday’s Mother’s Day tribute, he also posted about new girlfriend Elizabeth.

He shared a snippet of her the new music video she stars in for Bryan Adams’ song Never Ever Let You Go.

In the caption, he wrote, ‘I should be jealous, but WOW !!!!! congratulations @bryanadams for your great new video with my beautiful girlfriend @elizabethhurley1. Back in the day, I recorded ‘Hey Elvis with Bryan. good memories.’

Following his divorce from Trish, Billy Ray went on to have a brief but tumultuous marriage with Australian singer-songwriter Firerose, which lasted from October 2023 to August 2024.
