DC Police chief confirms shooter had multiple guns and knives

In a concerning incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Interim Metropolitan Police Department Chief Jeffrey Carroll announced that 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen attempted to breach the event with an assortment of weapons. Despite the high security measures in place, Allen managed to enter the vicinity with a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives.

During a press conference, Carroll assured the public that Allen appears to have acted alone, posing no ongoing threat. The motive behind his actions remains unclear, and authorities have yet to determine any specific targets he may have had in mind.

Investigations suggest that Allen had been staying at a hotel nearby, which may have facilitated his access to the event. Fortunately, no shots were fired, and Allen was subsequently taken to a hospital for evaluation, uninjured.

Carroll, the interim police chief, said that he could not say at this point what the shooter’s motivation was, and that it is too soon to know who the suspect had intended to target in the shooting.

He said investigators believe that the suspect was staying in the hotel and that appears to be how he was able to enter the hotel at the time of the event.

Carroll said the suspect was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, but he was not struck by gunfire.
