Houthis confirm attack on Israel and say strikes to continue until ‘aggression’ ends
The Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have officially acknowledged that they have initiated an offensive against Israel, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
This development signifies the Houthis’ entry into the fray and raises the specter of a wider regional confrontation. It also heightens concerns about the security of maritime routes in the area.
Israel previously announced its efforts to intercept an incoming missile from Yemen, indicating the seriousness of the threat.
The Houthi forces stated that their missile barrage was in response to the targeting of infrastructure in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, and the Palestinian territories. They have vowed to persist with their operations until what they describe as ‘aggression’ on all fronts ceases.
On Friday, Brigadier General Saree, a military spokesperson for the Houthis, released a pre-recorded message outlining potential strategies for the rebels to align more closely with Iran in the conflict.
Saree emphasized, “We affirm that our fingers are on the trigger for direct military intervention in any of the following cases.” This includes a continuation of hostilities against the Islamic Republic and the so-called Axis of Jihad and Resistance, as dictated by the military situation on the ground.
