For years, I’ve been privy to conversations where people criticize the Beckhams—some of whom have been closely associated with David and Victoria. These individuals range from former employees to acquaintances from various aspects of their lives.

Often, these critiques have not been kind.

David and Victoria Beckham, as high-profile celebrities, are ambitious individuals who aren’t without their flaws in personal conduct.

Despite this, one consistent point their critics acknowledge is their devotion as parents; they are committed to doing anything for their children.

From the moment their firstborn, Brooklyn, came into the world, they were utterly devoted. Their primary goal has always been to provide him with the best possible start in life.

Leveraging their extensive connections, they’ve afforded him numerous incredible experiences and opportunities. Unfortunately, this seems to have fallen short, as suggested by Brooklyn’s recent, distressing social media post. It seems he feels as though he was ‘controlled’ by them, which has contributed to his anxiety.

I have come to know how much the Beckhams loved Brooklyn over the past decade because a number of stories have come my way that did not always paint him in the best of lights.

Some involved him with the wrong crowd, others were ‘kiss and tells’ from former girlfriends. On every occasion, when I put these stories to the Beckhams’ camp, their PR machine leapt into overdrive in Brooklyn’s defence, on occasions instructing expensive lawyers to protect him.

Brooklyn appears to have forgotten all that. He’s choosing to ignore how David and Victoria have bent over backwards to try to protect him and help him.

All they were doing was what any loving parent would do – trying to help Brooklyn (and their other children), pointing them in the right direction and ensuring they fulfilled their potential. Despite their busy global careers, the children were always their absolute priority.

Now Brooklyn has thrown that unconditional love back in David and Victoria’s faces. He seems to have forgotten that this sorry feud really kicked off last May because he and Nicola, who had come to England from the United States, refused to join the family party to celebrate David’s 50th birthday.

If Brooklyn and – no doubt – Nicola think yesterday’s post will help their own public image, they are sadly deluded. To my mind, it is proof of what many have been saying – that they are nothing but a pair of over-indulged nepo babies who haven’t quite got their own way, and are hitting back.

David and Victoria, of course, will be devastated. Friends believe the lengthy post was cruelly designed to upset them. The first they heard of their son’s character assassination of them was just minutes after it went live.

Shortly after the outburst, family friends got in touch to share their sadness. Not just for David, Victoria and the other kids, but for Brooklyn too.

But the question on everyone’s lips is why Brooklyn chose now to let loose?

The attack comes just days after he and Nicola parted ways from their ‘attack dog’ publicist, Matthew Hiltzik. I was told that Hiltzik had become frustrated with the couple and their apparent determination to goad David and Victoria; he appears to have been trying to save them from themselves by advising them to rein it in.

Then, last Friday, a story appeared in the New York Post. It was an overview of the saga, in which one source said they believed Brooklyn would be reconciled with his family before too long, and that those around him couldn’t see why not.

Did this claim drive Brooklyn to publicly lambast his parents in the most brutal of ways?

I know Brooklyn is furious that his parents are blaming Nicola for the feud. It is understandable parental concern – they have been worried about him. They believe Brooklyn changed when he met Nicola, that they lost him. They believe their son is being controlled by her and that she is a narcissist. They won’t back down in that belief either.

As for who wrote the incendiary post, it’s fair to suggest it wasn’t Brooklyn alone as it is far too sophisticated. This will no doubt worry his parents further as it seems to add weight to their theory that he is perhaps being controlled to a degree out there in the States, where he spends a lot of time with Nicola’s family.

If Brooklyn and Nicola think that this will help their own PR, they are sadly deluded. Instead, it is proof of what we already knew

One of the lowest points in the post for David and Victoria will have been the mention of his ‘future family’. Being grandparents is a dream for them, and it’s quite clear from those words that they will never see any little Peltz-Beckhams unless matters improve.

Brooklyn’s deluge of hate towards his parents will absolutely devastate the wider family, and his younger brothers will be furious.

Both Romeo and Cruz have remained loyal to Mum and Dad and are incensed by their sibling’s treatment of them.

As for Harper, resuming a relationship with the big brother she adores is surely impossible.

I hoped this was wrong. But now, tragically, I fear it wasn’t.
