Brothers 'left girl with serious injuries in crash' in Sandbanks

Two brothers ‘left a 17-year-old girl with life-changing injuries when they crashed while on a loop’ around millionaires’ row in Sandbanks, a court has heard.

Henry Taylor and Harrison Taylor are both alleged to have been driving a loop around the exclusive peninsula in Poole Harbour in a BMW 135i and a Mercedes A200 when the tragic crash took place in the early hours of Boxing Day in 2023.

The pair, who arrived at Poole Magistrates’ Court with their parents, have been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving for the first time.

Property consultant Harrison, 19, was alleged to have been driving the Mercedes while his 21-year-old brother Henry was driving the BMW with another friend sat in the passenger seat.

During the crash, which occurred at around 1am, the Mercedes is said to have left the road and collided with a gatepost to one of the upmarket multi-million pound mansions.

The BMW then smashed into the back of the vehicle, sending the Mercedes flying into a garden wall, it was heard.

Mia Savage, who was sat in the front seat passenger of the Mercedes, sustained severe injuries as a result of the collision.

The teenager had become ‘trapped’ in the crumpled vehicle, with fire and rescue services urgently called to the scene to remove her from the wreckage.

She was later airlifted to Southampton Hospital to receive treatment.

Arriving at court, the pair, who live in the luxurious Sandbanks peninsula, stood side by side in the dock and did not enter any pleas.

The case, deemed too serious to be dealt with at magistrates, has now been sent to Bournemouth Crown Court.

David Finney, prosecuting, said: ‘The two are brothers and the passengers are all friends with one another. They had been at a single address before the collision and left the address to drive a loop.

‘They all drove onto Banks Road.’

Mr Finney said that Ms Savage had been left ‘mechanically trapped with her legs’ as a result of the collision, adding: ‘Extraction was required by fire and rescue.

‘She was helicoptered to Southampton hospital. She sustained life-changing injuries.’

Both brothers have now been released on unconditional bail and are due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court next month.

Following the crash in December 2023, Inspector Craig Totton, of the Roads Policing team, issued an urgent public appeal for information, stating: ‘I am appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to please come forward.

‘Also, I would urge anyone who has dashcam fitted to their vehicle and was in the vicinity at the time to check whether they have captured anything of relevance that might assist our inquiries.’

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said at the time: ‘Officers are investigating a serious injury collision in Sandbanks, Poole and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.’

The exclusive resort of Sandbanks, along England’s south coast, has often been described as one of the UK’s most exclusive enclaves.

Seafront facing homes can sell for as much as £13.5million and the picturesque location has attracted the likes of celebrity chef Rick Stein and Premier League manager Harry Redknapp.
