Police have located the three-month-old baby who was kidnapped by a stranger while his grandmother unloaded groceries from her car, and one suspect is now in custody.

Brandon Cuellar had been snatched from an apartment in San Jose, California, in broad daylight.

‘Baby Brandon has been located,’ the San Jose Police Department tweeted Tuesday, adding that he would be ‘taken to a local hospital as a precaution but he has been located alive.’

‘A million thank you’s to all who assisted.’

One suspect is in custody, the department said.

A suspect had walked into a home in the 1000 block of Elm Street at around 1 p.m. Monday and left with the young boy. Police released haunting video that shows the man walking down the sidewalk holding a baby carrier covered by a white blanket.

‘The family does not recognize this suspect,’ police had said in a Twitter post.

San Jose Police Sgt. Christian Camarillo said the baby’s mother was at work at the time and his father is in jail.

‘Dad right now is out of the picture. He is incarcerated. I don’t know, you know, whether that is going to play into this, but obviously we are going to talk to him soon,’ Camarillo said. It’s unclear why the father is in jail.

Camarillo said it was hard to make out the man who took the baby because he was wearing a mask.

‘We need the public’s help right now in San Jose to find this baby. Today someone is walking around with a three-month-old baby that they did not have yesterday,’ he said.

‘[The grandmother] came to this apartment, she took the baby in the apartment, went downstairs to unload some groceries,’ Camarillo said during a news conference Monday.

‘In that short amount of time, someone entered the apartment and left with the baby.’

Authorities did not issue an Amber Alert because investigators do not have a vehicle description.

Police had said the suspect is believed to be a Hispanic male who was wearing black pants, a dark blue shirt and grey shoes. He did not appear to be unkempt or a vagrant.

‘We are actively working leads,’ the San Jose Police Department had tweeted early Tuesday.

‘We know there is a need for information, but we also need to maintain the integrity of this investigation. The number one unwavering goal is to get baby Brandon home.’

Brandon was last seen wearing a white long-sleeved onesie with dinosaurs.

In the early hours, police said officers and FBI agents were going door-to-door in the neighborhood to appeal for witnesses or information.

They said: ‘All available resources are assisting with this investigation.’

Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators at 408-277-4166.
