A babysitter is facing charges after allegedly inflicting severe injuries on a child under her care and attempting to cover up the incident by laundering the child’s clothes.

According to court documents, Amanda Greger, 37, was responsible for looking after the young girl overnight on November 9, while the child’s mother was at work, as reported by WXIX. Upon returning home the following morning, the mother discovered her daughter asleep in a hoodie stained with what seemed to be blood and vomit.

The mother also observed that her daughter appeared unusually drowsy and had bruising on her lip.

Concerned for her child’s wellbeing, she took her to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Medical staff there, suspecting child abuse due to the severity of the injuries, contacted Goshen Township police.

The child was found to have blood oozing from her right eye and a brain hemorrhage.

Authorities obtained a warrant to search the mother’s residence, where they discovered blood stains in one of the bedrooms. Despite Greger’s attempts to remove evidence by washing the child’s clothes, stains were still detectable. The mother confirmed these clothes were the same ones her daughter had worn the previous evening.

According to WLWT, the 1-year-old baby girl remains under medical care.

Prosecutors said in court that  Greger told police she consumed alcohol and was using THC and unprescribed muscle relaxers on the night she was carrying for the baby. She also said she didn’t recall what happened.

A GoFundMe set up to help the family with expenses says that Greger was a “lifetime friend” of the mother ” who had been “trusted to protect and keep her kids safe while she worked to provide for them.”

Greger was charged with two counts of child endangering and one count of tampering with evidence and was given a $500,000 cash bond. If she bonds out, she is ordered to stay away from children.

She is due in court again on December 1.
