At least four individuals sustained injuries when a man wielding an axe and a hammer assaulted passengers on a crowded moving train in Germany.

Authorities reported that the incident occurred on an Intercity Express (ICE) train en route to Vienna.

Multiple police units, along with firefighters and emergency responders, were dispatched to the area near Straßkirchen, where the attack happened.

Some passengers are said to have pulled the train’s emergency brake after the attack, prompting officials to close the tracks.

According to BILD, the attacker is believed to be a Syrian and is now under arrest.

It is understood he was carrying both an axe and a hammer.

A train passenger allegedly stole one of his weapons and used it to stop the attacker.

It comes just a day after one person was killed and three others injured after a man went on a stabbing spree in Germany.

Emergency responders launched a major operation after the suspect stormed a utility company and attacked several employees.

German cops said a police investigation is currently underway in Mellrichstadt, where the company is located.

They added: “A police operation is currently underway in Mellrichstadt. Police officers and emergency services are on scene in large numbers.”

It is understood that the suspect, 21, is already in police custody.

There is currently no information on the suspect’s motive behind the fatal attack.

In May, at least 18 people were injured after a woman launched a frenzied stabbing spree at a packed German train station.

The horror unfolded at Hamburg Central Station, one of the country’s busiest transport hubs.

The 39-year-old suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and began randomly stabbing passengers waiting for a train to Munich.

The brutal attack left four people critically injured, six seriously hurt, and eight others with minor wounds, according to emergency services.

The suspect was a German national known to police and had a history of mental illness, having previously spent time in a psychiatric facility.
