Charlie Kirk was talking about transgender gun violence when he was shot dead in the college campus assassination which has shocked America.
The conservative firebrand’s final words were in response to an audience member’s question about transgender mass shooters.
Hunter Kozak, a 29-year-old student from Utah Valley University, posed a question to Kirk: ‘Can you tell me how many transgender Americans have been involved in mass shootings over the past decade?’
Kirk responded with a quick, ‘Too many,’ while Kozak noted there have been five, then asked: ‘Are you aware of the total number of mass shooters in the United States over the last ten years?’
‘Counting or not counting gang violence?’ Kirk replied, in what would be his final sentence as a shot rang out and he suffered a bullet to the neck.
In the aftermath of the horror, Kozak posted a video statement on social media clarifying what they had been speaking about.
‘People have obviously pointed to the irony that the point I was trying to make was how peaceful the left was, right before he got shot,’ he said.
According to his acquaintances, the shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, holds liberal views and resided with a ‘partner’, Lance Twiggs, whom officials have identified as transgender.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox commented that the roommate was ‘a romantic partner, a male transitioning to female’, and stated that they have been extremely cooperative and were unaware of the situation.

Tyler Robinson (pictured), 22, identified as liberal by his friends and resided with Lance Twiggs, who is thought to have been in the process of gender transition.

The authorities have not mentioned Twiggs (pictured) in any legal documents or charged him with any crime, with the FBI confirming his complete cooperation with their investigation.

In a court-filed affidavit, officers also wrote that the roommate shared with them incriminating texts from Robinson, saying where to retrieve the rifle used in the assassination.
Bullets found in Robinson’s rifle were inscribed with anti-fascist and slogans from leftist memes, including ‘Hey fascist! Catch!’, and ‘Notices bulges OwO what’s this?’
The second inscription referenced a meme, originating from around 2013, parodying furries and online roleplaying subcultures, and is typically used as a method of trolling.
The politically-motivated takedown which came as Kirk was debating transgender attacks has sparked discussions around hot-button topics including liberal ideologies and transgender shootings.
Conservatives have been quick to make a link between transgender mental health and mass shootings.
The US Secret Service National Threat Association Center found in a 2023 report that 96 percent of mass attackers between 2016 and 2020 were men, three percent were women, and 1.67 percent were transgender.
This is a disproportionate number, given that trans people account for less than one percent of the total US population.
Estimates of the demographic from sources including the National Library of Medicine range between 0.39 percent and 0.6 percent of the population.
It is difficult to quantify the percentage of mass shootings committed by trans people, because records also include gang violence, as Kirk pointed out in his final words.
Records are further complicated because it is not always possible to verify a shooter’s gender identity.

Experts have said that transgender people are more likely to be victims of violence than cisgender people.
There is no single officially recognized definition of a ‘mass shooting’ to differentiate the tragedies from gang violence, but the legal definition of a ‘mass killing’ is when three or more people are fatally wounded in a public setting.
Around two weeks before Kirk’s death, Alabama Governor Will Ainsworth shared a list of recent shooters who were transgender.
‘The liberal media refuses to recognize the growing link between ‘transgenders’ and mass shootings, but facts are facts,’ Ainsworth wrote on August 28.
‘The sooner everyone accepts that God made men, and God made women, and one can never become the other, the quicker we can lessen these events from happening.’
The list of recent trans shooters include Robin Westman, who killed two children and wounded 17 more people before turning the gun on herself at the Annunciation Catholic School and Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 27.
In March 2023, transgender woman Audrey Elizabeth Hale, formerly known as Aiden Hale, shot up The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, killing three children and three adults before being shot down by cops.
She wrote in her diary about her declining mental health and growing obsession with carrying out the sick attack while idolizing other school shooters.
In May 2019, transgender pupil Alec McKinney killed one student and injured eight more in an attack he launched with another student, Devon Erickson.
McKinney was sentenced to life in prison over the shooting at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
In September 2018, transgender Rite Aid employee Snochia Moseley gunned down four people and herself at a distribution center in Aberdeen, Maryland.
She had been diagnosed with a mental illness in 2016, and relatives were concerned for her wellbeing in the weeks before the deadly attack.
However, datasets from various sources show that the overwhelming majority of mass shootings are perpetrated by cisgender men.

Investigators spent all day Friday collecting evidence in an apartment that shooting suspect Tyler Robinson shared with a roommate
Robinson, the alleged assassin of father-of-two Kirk was living with a partner who was ‘transitioning from male to female’, according to the Utah Governor.
The partner, Lance Twiggs – who shared a three-bedroom apartment with Robinson in Utah – is said to be ‘fully co-operating’ with the FBI.
In a court-filed affidavit, police said the roommate shared with them incriminating texts from Robinson, saying where to retrieve the rifle used in the assassination.
They did not name Twiggs in the document, or accuse him of any crime.
Twiggs goes by the name ‘lancelotte’ on social media accounts including Instagram.
A Steam gaming account currently called ‘fluxalotl’ previously had the username ‘lancelotte’ as well as a slight variation ‘lancelott3’, and is friends with a user named ‘Craftin247’ – an account linked to the shooter.
‘Lancelotte’ had their ‘real name’ listed on Steam as ‘Lance’ – until December 11 last year, when the gamer changed it to ‘Luna’.
An account on online forum Reddit with the username ‘lancelott3’ posted extensively in a group for transgender issues, and in one conversation on the site mentioned that they were from Utah.
A post from the same account was made to the ‘Love for Landlords’ subreddit – where users share trolling posts pretending to show support for landlords.

President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death on Truth Social. ‘No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,’ Trump wrote. ‘He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us’

Stunned spectators are heard gasping and screaming before people start to run away
Lancelott3’s comment read: ‘We are riding with Biden on this glorious subreddit’.
A post from one year ago by the same user also discussed medications to ‘slow beard growth’ and ‘get good hip growth’.

Three friends told Daily Mail Tyler was an avid gamer. An account on Steam, an online gaming platform, used the name ‘Craftin247’ with the ‘real name’ listed as ‘Tyler’, and a location in Utah.
The gamer also used ‘Donald Trump’ as a previous username.
The account’s user, which has a picture of Kermit the Frog for its profile, had played 2,148 hours of games on Steam with ’10 years of service’ according to the gaming platform.
‘Craftin’ left mixed reviews on various videogames. In a review for pirate-themed adventure game Sea of Thieves, the gamer wrote: ‘if you play alone you will die alone’.

Kirk leaves behind his wife Erika Frantzve , with whom he had a three-year-old daughter and a son, 16 months
Daily Mail was the first news site to reveal Robinson was the shooting suspect and had been taken into custody.
And on Saturday Daily Mail exclusively revealed the identity of Robinson’s roommate in Saint George, Utah, as Twiggs.
Axios reported that six sources familiar with the murder probe told them Robinson was romantically involved with Twiggs.
The site, which referred to Twiggs as ‘the roommate’, said he was ‘aghast’ at the murder, and freely handed over his texts with Robinson to police.
Meanwhile, Kirk’s devastated wife promised to honor his legacy by continuing his popular tours of university campuses to spread his ideas and spiritual guidance.
‘There will be even more tours in the years to come,’ Erika Kirk said during a Turning Point USA livestream on Friday.
She also pledged that Americafest, Turning Point’s annual conference, will still be held in Phoenix, Arizona, in December.
‘It will be greater than ever,’ she said. ‘The radio and podcast show that he was so proud of will go on.’
