DENVER (KDVR) A Colorado children’s hospital is asking for hand-tied blanket donations in order to bring comfort to children receiving care.

This Thursday, Children’s Hospital Colorado announced an urgent plea for fleece hand-tied blankets, which are given to young patients to keep during their admissions. The Association of Volunteers provides these comforting items.

“Allowing kids to choose a blanket gives them a sense of control in an environment where their options are often limited. This simple gesture can have a profound impact, helping them feel unique and cared for,” stated Children’s Hospital Colorado in a press release.

What materials are needed

While creating a DIY hand-tied blanket may seem intimidating, it’s more straightforward than many assume, as it doesn’t involve sewing, just some dedicated time and patience.

According to the hospital’s DIY guidelines, the supplies needed to craft a polar fleece blanket include scissors, large safety pins, cardboard, printed fleece fabric, and solid fleece fabric.

The hospital provides detailed instructions with precise fabric measurements for those interested in making either crib or twin-sized polar fleece blankets.

For those experienced with sewing machines, there’s an opportunity to join the hospital’s blanket-making initiative, complete with step-by-step instructions. The handmade blankets from this project are intended for teens and children receiving treatment at the Pediatric Mental Health Institute.

Where to drop off donations

People who want to donate a home-made fleece blanket can drop them off at the hospital’s main campuses, located below:

  • North Campus: 469 State Highway 7
  • Anschutz Medical Campus: 13123 E. 16th Avenue
  • South Campus: 1811 Plaza Drive
  • Colorado Springs: 4090 Briargate Parkway

The hospital noted that it also accepts in-kind donations for those wanting to support their patients in other ways.
