CLEVELAND — Two Cleveland police officers were injured after being dragged during an incident involving a stolen vehicle on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 6:45 a.m., officers responded to a call in the area of East 79th Street and Chester Avenue of three men that appeared to be “slumped in a vehicle.”
Two Cleveland officers pulled up to the car to investigate the claim. The officers were able to determine that the vehicle had been stolen from East Cleveland.
As the officers waited for backup, the driver of the vehicle woke up and opened the door. When officers ordered the man to exit the vehicle, the man closed the door, turned the vehicle on and began to drive back and forth to evade arrest.
During the driver’s attempt to get away, both responding officers were dragged after being pinned by the vehicle door.
The driver also struck a nearby building and the officer’s police vehicle before coming to a stop.
Officers were able to arrest the driver after the vehicle stopped. Cleveland police did not say if the other two men in the car were arrested.

The incident remains under investigation.
