A young couple have revealed how they spent £24,000 transforming a dilapidated old van into their ‘dream home.’

Liv and Lew, from the UK, bought their Mercedes van with a mileage of 69,000, in February 2021, for £11,000 and decided to renovate the vehicle themselves to try and cut costs.

They then added insulation, a kitchen with an oven and fridge, running water and a bed. Despite their initial budget being £20k they say the final bill – exactly £24,300 including the cost of the van – was worth every penny.

On their TikTok page, where they have amassed over 125,000 followers, they revealed: ‘We’re really happy with the final costs because we actually thought it’d be much higher.’

In one of their videos they explained their journey so far. Liv explained: ‘In November 2019 we left our lives and home in London to set off on an adventure around the world.

‘We had big plans for this trip and we made an account called @2bags1trip to document our journey which we thought was going to last two years.

‘We managed to travel to India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and the Philippines, until the world closed down and Coronavirus hit.

‘At this point we had been travelling for five months but as I mentioned we had two years planned.

The couple added trendy herringbone flooring into the space, as well as a raised bed and a full working kitchen

‘Unfortunately this meant we had to come home for what we thought was going to be a stop gap but here we are a year later, still here.

‘During this time we started two vintage stores, we still carry on our account @2bags1trip and we also sell all our travel prints on @2bags1print.

‘And now we’ve added another string to our bow, @2bags1van, so alongside working full-time jobs we are also doing up our van.’

With a chic small modern kitchen, complete with  a small oven and stylish under the counter fridge, spot lights in the roof and lots of soft furnishings the van has a great cosy feel.

Due to the pandemic the couple haven't been able to travel as much as they'd like but so far the van has been across the UK and Europe

With the help of family members they did all the work themselves, with Lew using his DIY skills to cut costs and able to install much of the van's interior

The raised bed area stores lots of their belongings as well as two tables, one small one that unfolds inside, and one outside which pulls out of the back end on sunny days.

Although the couple can barely stand up in the van, they say they love it.

Meanwhile they also revealed they couldn’t live without their huge awning- Thule Omnistor 6300 – on the side of the van which gives them ‘another room’.

viewers were impressed saying: ‘It’s absolutely brilliant, you’re going to have a fabulous time in that!’

Another added: ‘Amazing, but the bed looks so small, if you’re tall how do you fit on it?’
