Thomas Tuchel has claimed that Bayern Munich ‘need a reaction’ heading into their clash with Manchester United, after suffering defeat in the Bundesliga.

The German champions were handed dealt their first league loss in the 2023-24 campaign in the form of a 5-1 thrashing by Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

The result sees Tuchel’s side lose ground on league leaders Bayer Leverkusen – who now hold a three point advantage at the summit of the Bundesliga table.

According to SPORT1, manager Tuchel said: ‘We underestimated the danger of the situation and completely gave the game away very early on.

‘I have confidence in my team. There’s no point in badmouthing everything now. It continues on Tuesday. Old Trafford. We need a reaction’.

Meanwhile, central midfielder Leon Goretzka echoed the thoughts of the Bayern first-team boss, as he issued a rallying cry to his team-mates.

‘That’s the beauty of football,’ he said, according to Sport Studio. ‘Things go quickly. For us on Tuesday it’s about showing a reaction.

That’s our focus now. Now it’s time to regenerate for two days and show a different face on Tuesday and gain self-confidence’.

United will be looking for a reaction themselves after suffering a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home against Bournemouth on Satuday.

Erik ten Hag’s side suffered the disappointing Premier League defeat after goals from Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi struck for the visitors.

The defeat saw United set an unwanted home record in the top-flight, as they suffered their fourth home defeat in the league during the 2023-24 campaign.

Afterwards, ten Hag accepted the blame for Manchester United’s latest shocking defeat, and admitted his players are not good enough to perform on a consistent basis.

United lost for the 11th time in 23 games this season, as Bournemouth ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at a stunned Old Trafford.

‘I think we have to always be ready for the game, and so I have to take the responsibility for that,’ the United manager said.

‘I have to prepare the team so they are ready for the game. From my point of view, I’m very disappointed the way we started. Annoyed, definitely. I expected something different.

‘I hoped before the game that we could build on the performance and result from Chelsea, so it’s very disappointing.

‘We are really inconsistent. We have the abilities to do it, but you have to do it every game and every third day’.
