The death of a man found in a travel trailer near Lakeside over the weekend was ruled a homicide, and another man detained at the scene is suspected in the killing, a county Sheriff’s Department lieutenant said Wednesday.
Authorities had not yet determined how the victim died.
His name and age were not released because detectives had not located or notified his family of his death, sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Seiver said.
The suspect was identified as Ramon Sandoval, 30, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of buying or receiving a stolen vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm and a probation violation, according to online jail records. He remained in jail as of Wednesday night.
Seiver said Sandoval is expected to be charged with murder.
Just after 3 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a report of a burglary at a property on state Route 67 near Johnson Lake Road, in an unincorporated area near Lakeside. Deputies were directed to an old trailer on the property. Parked next to it was a vehicle that deputies determined was stolen.
Deputies ordered anyone in the trailer to step outside. Sandoval walked out and was detained.
When deputies stepped inside the trailer, they found the victim’s body.
Seiver said the District Attorney’s Office was briefed on the case Wednesday and planned to file a murder charge against Sandoval. It was unclear if any charges were filed Wednesday. The District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to questions from the Union-Tribune.
