The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported a tense situation on Monday night, where deputies were compelled to open fire after a man allegedly aimed a “long gun” at them.

In Jacksonville, Florida, law enforcement officers responded to an incident on Creeks Ridge Road in Arlington around 8:45 p.m. following a report of gunfire.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man in the garage of a nearby residence armed with what they described as a “long gun.” They instructed him to drop the weapon and exit the garage, which he did, allowing them to detain him without incident.

However, the situation escalated when the man’s father, 68-year-old Offero Manalon, emerged from the house and picked up the gun in the garage. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Manalon then pointed the firearm at the deputies, prompting them to open fire.

Following the gunfire, Manalon retreated into the house, prompting a standoff. The SWAT team was deployed, and after approximately three hours, they used gas to coax Manalon out of the residence, bringing the standoff to a peaceful conclusion.

According to JSO, the three responding officers opened fire on Manalon, who went back inside the home. SWAT was called in shortly after, where eventually gas was injected into the home, and Manalon came out. The standoff lasted about three hours, JSO states.

Manalon was transported to a local hospital, where his current condition is unknown. No deputies were reported to have suffered from any injuries.

At the time of publishing, no deaths have been reported.

This is the second officer-involved shooting in 2026, with the first in Durbin Park being reported only minutes beforehand.
