Ryan Gosling’s presence in Hampstead has caused quite a stir among the local community, with mothers at school drop-offs and diners at restaurants doing double takes.
As recently disclosed by the Mail on Sunday, the La La Land actor, who is now 44, has moved from the United States to London. He, along with his wife, Eva Mendes, and their daughters, Esmerelda, 11, and Amada Lee, nine, have settled into a new home in the city.
Real estate in the luxurious North London neighborhood comes at a premium. The current average home price in Hampstead is £1,533,972, with flats averaging £996,703, and semi-detached houses reaching up to £4,224,100 as of 2024.
Gosling isn’t the only celebrity making Hampstead his home. He joins a star-studded neighborhood featuring the likes of Harry Styles, Jude Law, Emma Thompson, and Ricky Gervais, who resides in a £14.5 million residence.
Even with such high-profile neighbors, the Bladerunner star’s charm has captivated locals, especially during his recent visit to a Persian restaurant in the area.
Hana Restaurant took to Instagram to share their excitement, describing it as a “true honor” for the owner and his son to “welcome” and “serve” Gosling and his family.
‘Their warmth, kindness, and appreciation for our Persian cuisine made these evenings unforgettable,’ the restaurant wrote.
Ryan Gosling’s good looks has been turning the heads of Hampstead locals, in particular during his most recent pit stop at a local Persian restaurant.
Ryan and his wife Eva Mendes lived in Notting Hill while he filmed Project Hail Mary in 2024
‘What made it even more special was how our guests at Hana respected their privacy, allowing the family to relax and enjoy their dining experience in comfort.
‘Moments like these remind us why hospitality is at the heart of everything we do.’
But it isn’t only diners heads that have been left in a spin, the hearthrob’s visit to the local school to pick up his children has also left the mother’s of Hampstead swooning
Of his most recent visit a Hampstead local said: ‘Yes, he’s here and so delightful chatting to everyone at the school gate – such a lovely man.
‘And everyone can’t stop talking about how good looking he is, the mums are practically drooling over him.’
Gosling’s arrival has caused much excitement in the area, with one person revealing on Instagram’s Threads that the actor had held a door open for them: ‘Today’s unexpected adventure, Ryan Gosling holding the door open for me at a cafe in West Hampstead. What a gent!… Quite unexpected really!’
As of 2024, Gosling boasted a net worth of £55million, while his film star wife’s net worth was valued at around £15,000,000.
Former American actress Ms Mendes, 51, met Canadian-born Gosling on the set of the 2012 thriller Place Beyond The Pines and they were married in 2022. Ms Mendes retired from acting around the time her first daughter was born.
Gosling is in London filming the upcoming Star Wars movie Starfighter, but it is also believed he moved his family from the US to escape the ‘unstable’ political landscape.
Known as the ‘Donald Dash’, other celebrities who moved to the UK as President Trump took office include former chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, who lives in the Cotswolds with her wife Portia de Rossi, and Gosling’s Barbie co-star America Ferrera who has reportedly moved to south-west London.
However, his more immediate neighbours includes the like of mega popstar Harry Styles, who is believed to own four properties in the same exclusive Hampstead street.
It comes as his neighbours hit out over fears his £30million Hampstead mega mansion will blot out sunshine to their homes and leave them battling for a ‘right to light’.
The singer, 31, has already started renovating his future home in one of London’s wealthiest neighbourhoods, a project that won’t be completed until late 2027.
Ryan Gosling, 44, has relocated to Hampstead with his wife Eva Mendes and their two children
He is combining two luxury homes on a private estate in north of the city, into one jaw-dropping pad, complete with four bedrooms, a gym, cinema, art gallery and staff quarters.
Shortly afterwards, it was reported he has snapped up another sprawling property in the same area – his fourth house on the same street.
However, some of the pop stars new well-to-do neighbours fear the former One Direction singer’s vast city retreat will be ‘overbearing’.
While others have fumed it is ‘sad living next to a building site all the time’.
One resident told the Telegraph: ‘It’s sad living next to a building site all the time. This road didn’t used to be like this. All the houses are now constantly being bought by millionaires and redone.
‘There’s another house down at the bottom of the road, which I’m sure will be bought up and renovated like the others.
‘There’s also unfortunately less community among the neighbours than there was since people have moved on from the area.’
While they have raised concerns, no new official complaints have been made about the property. The Daily Mail contacted representatives for Harry for comment.
And Styles isn’t the only celebrity in Gosling’s neighbourhood, with British funnyman Ricky Gervais calling a £14.5million Hampstead pad is home.
Gervais, worth an estimated £120million, purchased the mansion in March 2024, previously revealing a major factor behind the move was his desire for a bigger garden – to build a tennis court.
However, the comic, 63, has confessed the sprawling mansion is unlikely to be his ‘forever home’ as his long-term partner Jane Fallon, 63, raised concerns about the pair living there in their eighties.
‘But I didn’t die and I wanted a tennis court so we had to move to a bigger house with a bigger garden just so we could get a tennis court and I just thought this is amazing, this is perfect. It’s not even finished yet but I love it.
‘But the other day, Jane went ‘we can’t live here when we’re 80’. So that’s like a ticking clock. She said ‘there’s all these stairs’. So I’m going to be moving when I’m 80.’
He added: ‘But I said let’s not move let’s just move in a load of doctors, nurses and security
Ricky said: ‘I thought the last house was the one I was going to die in.
‘I could have a team living inside. A driver, someone who I could play table tennis with, so that would be better
‘Moving at 80 with all this s*** again. I don’t want to think about it. Jane did most of it anyway.’
However, Gosling’s most recent move to London is not his first as both he and his family lived in Notting Hill while he filmed Project Hail Mary.
They briefly moved back to California before settling in Hampstead, an area it appears they have been eyeing up for some time after they were reportedly seen house hunting in 2022.
