A driver rear-ended a fuel tanker parked at a red light Saturday evening in the South Bay neighborhood of Nestor, resulting in life-threatening injuries, police said.

San Diego police were called at 7:49 p.m. to the wreck on Palm Avenue near Saturn Boulevard.

The 29-year-old man driving the Nissan Altima was taken to a hospital, where he was being moved to surgery with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the semi-truck was unhurt.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, police said.
