Flight crew tie up passenger who shouted abuse at Emirates attendant

This instance highlights when Emirates cabin crew had to restrain a disruptive passenger on a flight to Dubai. The passenger erupted in anger, directing offensive language at a flight attendant who declined to serve him additional alcohol.

Shocking footage shows the row erupting mid-air on February 27, 2023 leaving passengers stunned as the man lashed out at staff.

Fellow passenger India Sherwin, 20, said the traveller was clearly intoxicated and grew ‘increasingly loud and disruptive’ as the flight wore on.

Around four hours in, a stewardess refused him another drink, sparking a furious outburst.

He is said to have hurled abuse at her before turning on another traveller, threatening to ‘wipe the smile’ off their face.

Other passengers jumped in as he ‘kicked off’, with staff eventually forcing him to the floor and binding his hands with cable ties.

Sherwin said he carried on ‘shouting and swearing’ even as he was pinned down.

She said: ‘It was a frightening and surreal experience, especially in such a confined space thousands of feet in the air.

‘For the most part, everything seemed completely normal and peaceful. I began to notice a male passenger who had clearly had too much to drink.

‘At one point, I saw a flight attendant refuse to serve him any more alcohol, explaining that he was already intoxicated.’

Despite being subdued, the passenger persisted in his aggressive behavior, continuing to shout and curse, thereby escalating the disturbance onboard.

The cabin crew managed the situation admirably under challenging conditions, earning praise for their swift and courageous response, along with commendation for other passengers who stepped up to assist in maintaining safety.

When the plane touched down in Dubai, the passenger was escorted off by local police.

An Emirates representative confirmed the incident, noting that it occurred on February 27, 2023, involving a disorderly passenger on flight EK036 from Newcastle to Dubai.

‘The passenger was restrained by cabin crew and upon arrival, was handed over to the local authorities.

‘The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance and will not be compromised.’

In a separate incident, earlier this month, a report by the Mail covered chaotic scenes aboard a Ryanair flight following a disagreement, reportedly incited by a crying infant.

The altercation took place on the route from London Stansted to Lisbon on August 12, characterized by passengers vociferously arguing amidst the cries of children.

At one point, a man had to physically restrain another passenger just feet away from a mother trying to calm her terrified child.

Witnesses said tempers boiled over when the aircraft touched down at the Portuguese capital, forcing police to storm the plane, whilst he was held on the tarmac for around an hour as officers tried to restore order.

Because police were called to deal with the escalating tensions, everyone on board was held on the plane for roughly an hour.

A Ryanair spokesperson told the Mail: ‘The crew of this flight from London Stansted to Lisbon called for police assistance after two passengers became disruptive onboard. The aircraft was met by local police, and these passengers were removed.

‘Ryanair has a strict zero-tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct and will continue to take decisive action to combat unruly passenger behaviour, ensuring that all passengers and crew travel in a safe and respectful environment, without unnecessary disruption.

‘This is a matter for local police.’
