Forget buying a one-bedroom flat in Sydney, if you’re after a slice of your own to call home an entire town in Far North Queensland is up for sale for just $340,000.

The township of Lappa is being offered for private sale by its current owner Tim Prater, who advertised the one-acre property on Facebook.

A former mining town, Lappa is located on the western side of the Atherton Tablelands in Petford and is about two hours’ drive west from Cairns.

The nearest neighbours are kilometres away and the property features off-grid solar power and satellite NBN internet.

If that wasn’t enough to tempt you, Lappa also comes with three 120-year-old buildings: a museum and BYO pub; a church turned residential house and the charming fully-restored Lappa Railway Station.

“This sale is not for everyone,” Mr Prater wrote in the advertisement.

“There is still work to be done to restore Lappa.

“The reward on completion is a perfectly placed stop for visitors to the Chillagoe Caves as well as a potential Lions Den of the Western Tablelands connected to Cairns via bitumen highway.”

The township does come with its upsides.

If the humidity of FNQ gets too much you can cool off in the property’s pristine seasonal creek or visit the closest waterfall which is just a 10-minute walk away.

Answering questions in the comments of his Facebook post, Mr Prater said he has had “over a dozen genuine inquiries” on the property and expects it “won’t be hard” to sell.
