Secrets of Michael Jordan's $9.5M mansion, revealed for first time

Each day, numerous cars arrive at a set of shadowy gates located roughly 30 miles north of Chicago. These visitors are eager to catch a glimpse and snap photos, no matter the time.

‘Even at night,’ John Cooper tells the Daily Mail.

The Nebraska native purchased the expansive 56,000-square-foot mansion for $9.5 million in December 2024. He named it ‘Champions Point.’ This grand estate had been waiting for new ownership for over a decade, previously housing one of the most iconic athletes globally.

Hence all the visitors.

Visitors remain undeterred by any inaccuracies on Google Maps – 2700 Point Lane is mistakenly referred to as the ‘Mickael Jordan House.’ A significant giveaway of its former owner’s identity is the prominent No ’23’ displayed on the gates.

But very few people have ever had the chance to step foot inside Michael Jordan’s old mansion. Until now.

Earlier this month, the house appeared on Airbnb, offering renters the chance to ‘live like a legend’ in a ‘private oasis’ across 7.39 acres.

The listing, posted by ‘John’, boasts of seven bedrooms and 17.5 bathrooms. It includes dozens of photographs and a long list of luxuries: a putting green, a fishing pond full of bass and bluegill, a movie theater, a cigar lounge, and two 300-gallon salt water aquariums. ‘They are mesmerizing,’ Cooper says.

Now, though, the Daily Mail can shed light on what else renters can expect at the NBA legend’s old haunt in Highland Park. Among them? Relics of the original Playboy Mansion, a private barbershop and an ornate table-top modeled on the streets of Baghdad.

And it can all be yours for a shade over $100,000… for a week.

The exact price depends on the time of year, but there are certain non-negotiables. Renters must sign an NDA, pay a $25,000 security deposit and agree not to host parties or bring any pets.

If you’d prefer a longer stay – of up to a year – it will set you back $89,000 a month. Plus expenses, of course.

‘I purchased the property as an investment,’ says Cooper, a former stockbroker turned real-estate executive.

‘It is so beautiful – the landscaping is incredible…. it seemed like a fun and exciting project with lots of opportunities and a good financial upside.’

Jordan was always his favorite NBA player and, shortly after picking up the keys, Cooper celebrated his 42nd birthday with a party at ‘Champions Point.’

He played basketball and golf, then spent the next seven months touching up his new estate. ‘Bringing the property up to a very high standard of excellence,’ as he puts it.

At first glance, few rooms contain much evidence of their former owner. But, make no mistake, Airbnb users will know they are walking in the footsteps of a giant. Cooper vowed to ‘honor the property’s legacy,’ and nothing left by Jordan has been altered or removed.

His ‘Jumpman’ logo is featured on the indoor basketball court, the golf flags and the digital thermostat. The NBA legend’s twin loves – poker and smoking – are combined in the cigar lounge, which comes with a humidor and card tables.

That’s open to guests. So is the putting green, the circular infinity pool and the gym. Renters can also make use of the wine tasting area in the cellar and play tennis, pickleball or basketball.

Upstairs, there are ‘beautiful’ dark doors that once welcomed guests into Chicago’s original Playboy Mansion. Behind them now? A lounge that features a full bar, a fireplace and a 98-inch TV.

In the dining room sits a table, which was made especially for Jordan, apparently, with the tabletop design supposed to resemble a map of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad

Downstairs in the basement, meanwhile? A salon. Cooper says visitors can request a private barber, a private chef or even private lessons.

So far, no one has stayed in the house through Airbnb, but Cooper revealed that there have been several requests that are being ironed out.

‘I envision keeping this property for a long time,’ he says, which will probably come as a relief to local realtors.

Jordan first bought the land in 1991 and, over the course of a few years, it’s said he spent around $50 million building the estate. The nine-bedroom, 19-bathroom mansion went on the market in 2013, for $29 million, but proved a tough sell.

And now, Cooper is running into issues of his own.

Airbnb was not his original plan. Back in January, Champions Point launched a co-ownership plan, offering individuals and businesses the chance to buy a stake – with bids starting at $1 million.

Alas, ‘that use is currently in dispute with the city of Highland Park,’ Cooper says. He won’t divulge details of these roadblocks but does hint at grander plans.

‘There are a lot of great ideas on how the property could be best used,’ Cooper says. ‘Unfortunately, most of those ideas require zoning relief, which is a slow and uncertain process. I am exploring these options.’

They will have to wait, as negotiations with the authorities continue. So for now, he says, ‘I’m ready to share the property with others through rentals.’ Provided they have the money to get through those gates, of course.
