My favorite cooking gadget is getting a big upgrade

I’ve been using my Thermomix TM6 for roughly five years, and it has become an essential part of my daily kitchen routine. From whipping up morning smoothies to steaming vegetables for dinner, making sauces, or cooking rice, it stands out as the most adaptable smart device in my kitchen. Today, its successor, the Thermomix TM7, debuts in the US market with a price tag of $1,699.

The cost might seem steep, yet this multifunctional device is meant to replace numerous kitchen appliances, offering features like weighing, chopping, whisking, steaming, sautéing, slow cooking, and fermenting. A significant enhancement is its larger 10-inch touchscreen that’s driven by a faster multicore processor. Despite the improvements, I’m concerned about the absent physical dial, since all controls are now on the screen, which also provides access to 200 built-in guided cooking recipes and more with a $65 yearly Cookido subscription.

The TM7 has received a complete makeover, featuring a slick, all-black design, an innovative open-lid cooking option, and a bigger steaming basket. According to Thermomix’s parent company, Vorwerk, the software platform has been entirely reengineered to accommodate major future updates, such as adding voice control capabilities.

The TM6, which launched in 2019, has been discontinued, but Vorwerk has committed to 10 years of support.
