FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – In light of a brush fire that erupted on Wednesday, authorities in Flagler County are strongly advising residents in certain areas to evacuate for their safety.

The Flagler County Emergency Management team released a statement Wednesday evening, specifically recommending that individuals residing in the following zones consider evacuation:

    • – Residents located between East Avenue and Bayberry Village Road.

    • – Residents situated between Old Dixie Highway and Deer Hunter Road.

To assist evacuees, a temporary shelter has been established at Fire Station 16, conveniently located at 3935 Old Dixie Hwy., close to the nearby Publix supermarket.

As the situation developed, the sheriff’s office reported just before 9 p.m. that the brush fire had necessitated the closure of Old Dixie Highway. This section is now inaccessible between Interstate 95 and U.S. Highway 1.

Shortly before 9 p.m., the sheriff’s office also announced that the brush fire had caused Old Dixie Highway to shut down between Interstate 95 and U.S. Highway 1.

“Deputies are currently assisting with evacuations in the area of residences on both sides of Old Dixie Highway,” the sheriff’s office noted. “Affected residents should receive notice via Reverse 911.”
