Pop superstar Justin Bieber stunned staff at a St Andrews fish and chip shop by singing the menu while popping in for his dinner.

The 31-year-old Canadian singer was spotted in Scotland during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and made a brief stop in St Andrews for food before continuing to Dundee.

In an exclusive conversation with The Daily Mail, the manager of Cromars Fish and Chips in the charming university town confessed that he ‘didn’t realize’ the casually dressed young man they had waiting was actually a music icon with 293 million Instagram followers.

Charles Mair, 47, commented: ‘Honestly, we didn’t have a clue who he was. It was an extremely busy day because of the Dunhill Cup event happening at Gleneagles.’

‘So we were rushing around when all of a sudden this customer started tapping his hands on the counter and singing the menu.

‘He was by himself but had two other friends with him who were helping him with the order.

‘He placed his order and we cook fresh-to-order so he had to wait like everyone else, he was very charming and nice.

‘And then we actually realised who it was. Half of St Andrews knew who it was so we got extremely busy.’

Mr Mair says despite the buzz Bieber’s appearance in the chippy caused, he did not fret and was ‘respectful’ to the crowd gathered inside the shop.

He explained: ‘A lot of people came in as well. It was a good, buzzing atmosphere, he was very nice, very respectful.

‘He had five or six of our specials, which is haddock and chips with an Innes and Gunn beer.

‘He took it away because there was no space inside unfortunately. We have a takeaway licence, so he was allowed to do that.

‘So they took them away and went in the car and disappeared.

‘He was probably here for about 15 minutes. It takes about seven to ten minutes to cook the fish and the waiting time because we were very busy.

‘It was an interesting experience to be honest.’

The Canadian singer shared a series of images on social media documenting his visit to Scotland, including a picture taken by a customer of him holding a beer outside Cromars Fish and Chips.

Bieber is in Scotland playing golf at Gleneagles, where he was staying at the five-star hotel.

After his trip to St Andrews, he then hit the pub trail in Dundee 11 miles north.

But it was his selfie outside Cromars which had the greatest impact.

Mr Mair added: ‘We didn’t get any selfies as it was very, very busy and we’re trying to keep all the others out, probably around 50 or 60 people were trying to get in.

‘So we are looking for people who did get selfies with him.

‘He was absolutely fine with other customers, very happy and relaxed. Very nice and chilled out.

‘It’s a small environment but everyone was happy.

‘He took his selfie at the window which everyone has seen. We’ve actually had people coming to take selfies at the exact same spot that he did.

‘A lot of people came in yesterday asking questions which was good. It was really good. We’ve had a lot of golfers in here but a superstar like that was very, very interesting.

‘He’s by far the most famous person we’ve had in. We’re finalists in the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards which are coming up

‘Hopefully this will give us a big push for success there again.’

After lining his stomach in St Andrews, Bieber made the short trip to Dundee where he was spotted in a tiny pub frequented by shocked regulars.

He was captured by fans sitting quietly in the corner of the boozer enjoying a beer, as well as playing on an arcade machine.

And the multi-millionaire singer also dipped into his own pocket to buy a round of drinks for pub-goers.

Bieber – who travelled to Scotland without his wife Hailey Bieber – was first spotted on his north of the border jaunt on Thursday when he touched down at Dundee airport to attend the golf championships

After his arrival, he was spotted leaving his hotel for a round of golf at the luxurious Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder, Perthshire, where he posed for a group photo dressed in golf shoes, a beanie hat, wraparound shades and a jacket with the famous five-star hotel’s logo on it.

He later treated guests at the hotel to a performance of his track Walking Away, from his latest album Swag, on a piano located in one of the hotel’s dining areas.

As the weekend hit, he was then pictured enjoying a night out in St Andrews, posting a slew of snaps of himself hanging out on the town’s Market Street surrounded by revellers, before grabbing some food at Cromer’s.
