Real Madrid have decided to drop their interest in Kylian Mbappe, according to reports in Spain.

The Spanish giants were expected to move for the PSG star when his contract expires in the summer.

But Real have now cooled their interest due to three reasons, according to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser.

Mbappe would demand at least €20m (£17.5m), while the top earners currently earn between €10m (£8.7m) and €15m (£13m).

Secondly, Real have already failed with three attempts to lure the France forward from Paris.

And finally, the 24-year-old does not fit their transfer policy of only investing heavily in younger talent.

Earlier this month Real Madrid denied claims they have held negotiations with Mbappe ahead of his contract expiring next summer – calling the rumours ‘completely false’.

Mbappe will become a free agent at the end of the season as things stand and should he fail to agree new terms with the French side, there will be a host of elite clubs queuing up to secure one of the world’s best players for free.

The Frenchman endured a tense relationship with his club over the summer amid uncertainty over his future and at one point he was banished to play with the B team. Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal even lodged a world record £257million, but the player opted against moving to the Middle East.

He has since resolved matters with PSG and returned to the first team – going on to score ten times in nine Ligue 1 starts, looking to brush off questions around his future.
