Mr Turnbull, who was succeeded by Scott Morrison after a leadership spill in 2018, made the announcement on Twitter this morning.
“Like hundreds of thousands of other Australians I have tested positive for (COVID-19),” he wrote.
“Symptoms moderate so far. Isolating as required.”
He called for people to show respect and care for frontline health workers struggling during the latest wave of the pandemic.
“This pandemic and especially this latest wave has put our health professionals under enormous pressure,” he wrote.
He then made mention of the current status of the surging crisis.
“Whatever failures there have been in planning and preparation are NOT (health workers’) fault,” he wrote.
“They have had two years of relentless pressure and it’s now at it’s most intense. So give them the love and respect they deserve, please.”
