Gabby Petito’s father has expressed his sympathy for Nancy Guthrie’s family as they navigate a series of false leads and errors in the search for the missing woman.
Joe Petito discussed recent events surrounding the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie during an appearance on Fox & Friends, nearly five years after the tragic disappearance of his own daughter, Gabby.
Commenting on the investigation into the disappearance of the 84-year-old, Petito stated, “A lot of outside influence will try to give an opinion.”
He added, “They’re the only ones who have all the information or as much as possible. I just hope they’re listening to what they feel is best.”
Gabby Petito, aged 22, vanished in August 2021 during a cross-country road trip with her fiancé, Brian Landrie. Her remains were discovered a month later near Grand Teton Park in Wyoming, following a widespread search effort.
In recent developments, it emerged on Thursday that the Arizona sheriff’s department in charge of the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance has been denying the FBI access to a glove and DNA evidence found in her home.
Investigators combing through the desert surrounding Guthrie’s $1 million home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona found a black glove on Wednesday that looks similar to the one her abductor wore in the doorbell camera footage.
Joe Petito emphasized the similarities with his daughter’s case and remembered people grabbing onto false leads and misinformation far too quickly, making the search all the more difficult.

Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing for almost two weeks, sparking a frantic search
After a frantic, month-long search, authorities found Gabby’s remains near Grand Teton Park in Wyoming.
Landrie’s notebook was found months later with his confession to murdering his fiancée. His remains were found nearby. Officials found died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Experts have drawn parallels between the search for Petito and the search for Today Show host Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy.
Joe Petito recalled everything ‘moving so fast’ during the media-frenzied investigation into his daughter’s disappearance.
‘It’s humbling to see so many people try and help your family,’ he said. ‘But it’s also frustrating.’
The father remembered the chaotic information deluge in the aftermath of his daughter’s disappearance.
‘If someone does a bad report and doesn’t give accurate information, a lot of times other people just copy and paste it,’ he said.
‘And next thing you know, something’s out there that’s not true at all.’
The Guthrie family and Pima County Police have dealt with their fair share of unresolved evidence and false information.

The heavily publicized case has included multiple ransom notes, mounting evidence and thousands of tips from the community
The mother-of-three was last seen by her daughter Annie and son-in-law on January 31.
Guthrie was reported missing the next morning after she failed to show up at a friend’s house to watch virtual church services.
She has not been seen or heard from since, as her children repeatedly pleaded with the public for any help finding their mother.
Authorities believed Guthrie was forcibly taken from her home.
Police have received 13,000 tips from the community regarding her disappearance.
The media and the family have received multiple ransom notes with deadlines, demands and conditions for her return, but at least one was reported to be fake.
Other sightings of a man lurking near Guthrie’s home and an unmarked white van parked in her neighborhood have thus far gone unresolved.

The elderly woman’s state of health has added another layer of urgency to the investigation.
‘She’s 84 years old,’ Savannah said in a February 4 video plea.
‘Her health, her heart is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer.’
The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery.
Gabby Petito’s grieving father offered his prayers and condolences to the Guthrie family.
‘My prayers to them,’ he said. ‘I hope this ends with Nancy coming home safe and sound and whoever did this behind bars.’
