A bad-mannered ghost is haunting a famous beauty spot and telling unsuspecting walkers to f*** off.

A ‘woman in white’ has been disturbing the peace with foul-mouthed rants as she spooked ramblers at Dead Woman’s Ditch, on the Quantock Hills in Somerset.

The area was named after the murder of Jane Walford by her husband John in 1789.

There were reports of a sweary apparition two years ago but after a brief holiday she seems to be back at her sharp-tongued worst.

A local ghostbusting team have started to investigate the unnatural reports.

It’s not the first time people living near the Ditch have seen ghoul.

One resident said: ‘When I was about 17 on my way home from work, driving along a cold road, I saw a bright white figure on the side of the road so I slowed down.

‘It appeared to be a woman completely dressed in white, old-fashioned clothing.

‘I couldn’t take my eyes off as I drove past. I couldn’t bring myself to turn around to have another look. I just drove home in complete shock.’

Another said: ‘I’ve seen what looks like a tall figure with a long dark coat on outside the pub, on the edge of the road. Checked back and no-one there.’

The reaction from locals has been mixed, with one saying it was ‘probably just a Bluetooth speaker hidden in the bushes,’ while another said it ‘all sounds a bit Scooby Doo to me’.

Matthew Longhurst added: ‘Even the ghosts are going chav.’

However, others were more convinced. Local woman Shelley Brereton said: ‘Two women died here (or at least the body of a second one was found in 1988), so maybe she is the one haunting people.’

Meanwhile, Philip King said: ‘Given the behaviour of many visitors to the hills and the vast numbers, I can understand why she is ticked off.’

Valerie Moss added: ‘I wonder when the F-bomb made it into current usage? Might help to date the ghost.’
