Gina Carano has received a settlement following her controversial 2021 firing from Disney’s The Mandalorian.

The 43-year-old actress and former mixed martial artist, known for her role as Cara Dune in a Star Wars spin-off, was dismissed from the successful series in early 2021 following controversial Instagram posts where she compared the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust to that of American conservatives.

Carano announced on her official X account that she has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm, expressing that she believes the agreement is the best resolution for everyone involved. She hopes it will lead to some reconciliation.

She added, ‘I want to extend my deepest most heartfelt gratitude to Elon Musk … a man I’ve never met … and the truth shall set you free. ‘

On Thursday, Lucasfilm issued a statement: ‘The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce the resolution of our legal issues with Gina Carano. We are glad to have reached this agreement.’

According to the statement shared by Variety, Lucasfilm added, ‘With the lawsuit now behind us, we are open to potential collaborations with Ms. Carano in the future.’

The film company continued: ‘Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff.’

Lucasfilm officials said Carano ‘worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect.’

Carano faced significant backlash in early 2021, a period characterized by the political transition with President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the aftermath of the 2020 election, the January 6 events, and a shift towards heightened political sensitivity.

The Instagram post that led to Carano’s termination in February 2021 stated, ‘Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors, even children.’

‘Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. The post continued: How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?’

Carano’s agency at the time, UTA dropped her when she was cut by Disney.

Carano found a well-funded ally in billionaire Elon Musk, who funded litigation against Lucasfilm last year in a federal court in California.

Carano in a February 2024 lawsuit requested the court force Lucasfilm to compensate her to the tune of punitive damages of $75,000; and order the company to put her back on the show.

Attorneys for Disney sought to get the lawsuit dismissed in April of 2024.

The company cited ‘a constitutional right not to associate its artistic expression with Carano’s speech,’ pointing toward the First Amendment.

The court rejected Disney’s request in July of 2024, leading Carano to declare she was ‘moved to tears’ by the shifting momentum.

Carano fired off an angry tweet in reply, taking the company to task to their outster of her.

‘Disney has confirmed what has been known all along,’ Carano said, ‘they will fire you if you say anything they disagree with, even if they have to MISREPRESENT, MALIGN, and MISCHARACTERIZE you to do it.

She continued: They are now on record letting everyone who works for them know that Disney will take any chance they get to control what you say, what you think or they will attempt to destroy your career.

‘Glad we cleared that up. The First Amendment does not allow Disney to wantonly DISCRIMINATE, which is what they have done in my case and frankly have now admitted they did.

Carano wrapped up in saying, ‘If you ever wanted to know what today’s “Disney values” are, they just told you.’
