Erik ten Hag cut a forlorn figure as the final whistle blew following Manchester United’s shocking home defeat to Bournemouth.

As disappointment echoed around Old Trafford following the 3-0 loss to the Cherries, the Dutchman stood eerily still in front of the dugout at the culmination of the game, almost processing what he’d seen in front of him.

Going into the game Ten Hag had been named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for November, but United showed no sign of the team that earned him the accolade.

It led to the Dutch boss standing motionless at the end of the game, as everyone around him proceeded to leave the pitch and head back to the changing room.

The win was Bournemouth’s first-ever win at Old Trafford, and it could have been worse for the home side, as the visitors had two goals chalked off and hit the post in a dominating display.

Andoni Iraola’s team have now won four of their last five games, drawing the other, and moved ten points clear of the Premier League’s bottom three after a difficult start to the season.

However, the result heaps huge pressure on Ten Hag and comes after last weekend’s laboured display in the defeat to Newcastle.

There was Wednesday’s mid-week win over Chelsea in between those two defeats, but the victory only laid United’s inconsistency bare for all to see.

Things don’t get any easier for the Man United boss, as he faces two huge games in the club’s next couple of fixtures.

They face Bayern Munich in midweek as they try and salvage their Champions League campaign, before heading to Anfield next Sunday to face old rivals Liverpool in the Premier League.
