Trump tells The Post news of fresh peace talks ‘possible’ as soon as Friday — as Iran scrambles to come up with ‘unified’ plan

ISLAMABAD — Promising developments might soon emerge regarding a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, as President Trump and sources from Pakistan hinted on Wednesday. According to information shared with The Post, these discussions could see progress as early as Friday.

Officials in Islamabad have highlighted encouraging mediation efforts with Tehran, suggesting that the prospect of renewed peace talks could materialize within the next “36 to 72 hours.” When questioned by The Post about this potential breakthrough, President Trump responded via text message, stating, “It’s possible! President DJT.”

This update follows the US president’s recent announcement to prolong the current ceasefire with Iran. The extension is intended to allow Iran’s divided leadership time to formulate a “unified proposal.”

In a message posted to Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump declared, “I have directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other.”

Since that announcement, Islamabad has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts with Iran. The timeframe mentioned is based on an evaluation of these ongoing efforts, according to a Pakistani source.

“The ceasefire is holding despite heightened rhetoric, indicating positive intent on both sides,” the source remarked. “No military escalation from either side.”

“Pakistan remains the key mediator,” the person added.
