The Falkland Islands recently witnessed the removal of several plaques that had been unveiled by Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, following his fall from favor. These plaques were taken down in light of the former prince’s connections to the late billionaire and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which led to his brother, King Charles, stripping him of his titles, styles, and honors.

Andrew had played an active role during the 1982 conflict with Argentina and returned to the islands in 1985 to inaugurate the £300 million RAF Mount Pleasant airbase. During the ceremony, he revealed a plaque to the cheers of thousands of onlookers, many of whom displayed signs affirming their British allegiance with slogans such as “British forever.”

However, according to a report from The Mirror, the plaque has since been removed by officials. The UK Ministry of Defence, which oversees the operations at RAF Mount Pleasant, confirmed to the newspaper that they are complying with King Charles’s directive to eliminate Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s titles, styles, and honors.

In addition to the airbase plaque, other commemorative markers unveiled by Andrew on the British territory have also been taken down. His visits to the islands included an engagement at the Infant Junior School in Stanley, where he inaugurated several buildings in 2002.

Other plaques on the British territory Andrew unveiled over the years have also since been removed.

He was invited to the Infant Junior School in the capital, Stanley, where he opened several buildings in 2002.

But a representative this week said: ‘The plaque has been taken down and the Duke of York is no longer connected to our school’.

Andrew also travelled to New Island to unveil a plaque for the Islands’ Falklands Conservation trust. But this has since been taken down, with a member of staff telling the Mirror: ‘He was removed as patron and the plaque at the field centre has gone’.

And a tablet with his name on it at the King Edward Memorial Hospital, in Stanley, was taken down in 2022 after he reached an out of court settlement with accuser Virginia Giuffre.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Epstein had urged a business associate to meet up with the former Duke of York while in Davos as ‘he’s great fun’.

Mountbatten Windsor was officially at Davos, where the annual gathering of global leaders was taking place at the World Economic Forum, to promote British interests when the email exchange between Epstein and Boris Nikolic took place in January 2010.

The email was sent to Nikolic, a former adviser to Bill Gates, just six months after Epstein was released from jail in Florida, having been convicted of procuring a minor for prostitution.

In the email, Epstein asks Nikolic if he’s had ‘any fun’ at Davos so far, to which he replies: ‘Different kind of fun… Met your friend Bill Clinton yesterday, followed up with [Nicholas] Sarkozy. Later in the day meeting your other friend Prince Andrew as he has some questions re Microsoft.’

The former Duke of York was in Davos in his capacity as UK special representative for international trade and investment at the time. He stepped down in 2011.

Epstein writes back: ‘You can tell Andrew we are friends.’

When he is told by Nikolic that he does not ‘need anything from him’, Epstein responds: ‘Yes you do. You need to laugh and have fun. He is good at that… He’s great fun.’

Nikolic, who was name an an executor of Epstein’s will after he died in 2019, replied and said he had heard that Andrew ‘is not that fun, but I trust your judgement.’

He added that ‘it would be blast that you are here. I was just flirting with 22 years old hot blond blue eyes mexican chick.

‘It turns out she is with her husband. Did not have chance to check him out. But as we concluded, anything good is rented.’

He added a winking face emoji to the end of his email.

And after meeting with Andrew, Nikolic reported back to Epstein, writing: ‘He is great… I think I would trade Davos for a good fashion week. Much more fun.’
