Fernandina Beach’s fifth Pride Parade fosters unity and inclusion with vibrant festivities, hundreds in attendance.

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — The historic streets of Fernandina Beach came alive with a kaleidoscope of colors, music, and cheer on Saturday as hundreds gathered for the city’s fifth annual Pride Parade and Festival.

Organized by Fernandina Beach Pride, a local nonprofit group, the event united families, allies, and LGBTQ+ supporters from all over Nassau County in a lively expression of solidarity.

“Embrace what we have, not only the beautiful beaches, but the wonderful people,” said Andee Harbison, who attended the event with her husband, Mike.

Attendees told First Coast News pride month is not just a celebration, it’s a statement of inclusion.

“It’s truly remarkable how our community welcomes everyone without discrimination over personal choices. It’s a personal matter,” Harbison expressed.

Her husband Mike Harbison echoed that sentiment.

“It’s part of the diversity that makes this country great.”

Organizers tell First Coast News events like this are especially meaningful in smaller towns, where LGBTQ+ residents can sometimes feel invisible.

“It’s important to show our colors and to welcome everybody,” said Gail Banwell, a member of New Vision Congregational Church. “We’re proud of all our family members and all the different members of our community.”

The event included live music, food vendors, advocacy booths, and a family-friendly atmosphere that attendees say they hope continues to grow.

“It gets bigger and better every year,” ]Leah Cooter said. “I hope we can sustain this celebration of each other, of living authentically and continue to grow and prosper as a community.”

This year marks five years of Pride in Fernandina Beach and many here say it won’t be the last.
