SAN YSIDRO —
A man robbed a cellphone store employee at gunpoint Wednesday evening in San Ysidro, making off with cash from the register and a phone, San Diego police said.
The robbery occurred about 6 p.m. at the Metro by T-Mobile retail store in a strip mall off West San Ysidro Boulevard near Alverson Road, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said in a news release.
The robber entered the store and spoke with the employee for a few minutes before pulling out a gun, pointing it at the worker and demanding money, Heims said. The employee opened the register and the robber took cash and a cellphone, then left walking south on West San Ysidro Boulevard.
Only a vague description of the robber and his clothing was immediately available. Detectives from the Police Department’s robbery division were investigating the heist.
