The Sydney Cricket Ground was filled with emotion as the heroes were celebrated on the pitch, receiving a heartfelt standing ovation from players, officials, and a crowd of 48,000 spectators.
A poignant moment of silence was observed to honor the 15 victims of last month’s tragic attack.
Among the honored was Al Ahmed, who, with his left arm still in a sling from a gunshot wound, was the last to walk through the guard of honor.
Al Ahmed had spent over two weeks at St George Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his shoulder.
He was discharged from the hospital on December 29.
A statement from the Bondi Lifeguards expressed immense pride, declaring, “We are incredibly proud to make Ahmed Al Ahmed an honorary member of the Bondi Lifeguards, recognizing his selfless heroics that helped save lives.”
“Thank you⦠for your tribute to the first responders, and for once again allowing a moment’s silence in honour of the families affected by the Bondi attack.”
